Ruth Ridgway
Volunteer of the
Year
Utica, NY— Ruth Ridgway of New Hartford was
named Volunteer of the Year on October 19 at NYSARC, Inc.’s 58th
Annual Convention in Albany. Ruth has been a member of NYSARC for 27
years and has served on The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter’s Board of
Directors since 1980. Ruth has held the offices of Treasurer, Secretary,
Vice President and President at the Oneida-Lewis Chapter and sits on
numerous Committees at both the state and local levels.
Ruth exhibits an ongoing
recognition of the need to always take a positive message regarding the
nature of disabilities one step further. She continually advocates for
greater involvement by individuals with developmental disabilities in
decision making because she strongly feels that “everyone should have
power over their own lives. Each person’s needs and desires are self
driven.”
A special reception was
held in Ruth’s honor at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany following the
announcement of her Volunteer of the Year award. The Arc,
Oneida-Lewis Chapter will recognize Ruth’s achievement locally when it
proudly hosts another reception on November 13 at 3 p.m. at The Arc’s
Administration Building, 245 Genesee Street in Downtown Utica.
