The Arc’s Employment
Services began in 1986 and is now well-developed and very successful in
providing to persons with disabilities, an array of supports to link them to
the working world.
The Arc’s Employment Services
provides job placement services to local businesses by matching employer
needs with an employee who has the skills and abilities to meet those needs.
Often a good job match means an
end to high turnover in entry-level positions, and an addition to your
workforce of a highly motivated individual who will do their best to succeed
and prove themselves a valuable employee.
And, there is no cost to the
employer. The person you hire becomes an employee of your company with the
same benefits offered to any other employee in that position.
The Arc seeks employers who will
hire individuals with disabilities into their businesses, ideally for a
minimum of 20 hours per week, and earning at least minimum wage

Our Employment programs offer a
fresh approach to meeting labor needs at no cost to your company. We offer
qualified candidates, ongoing consultation services and specialized training
to assure a high level of satisfaction to both employer and employee.
The following are some of the
benefits provided by our services:
How Supported Employment Can Help:
We provide job coaching as needed and ongoing
follow up to employees and employers. Our job coaches make the difference –
they train one-on-one and stay until the tasks are mastered. Then they
gradually “fade” and the new employee works independently, but with the
ongoing support of an Arc Senior Job Coach, who will visit the site as
needed, re-train, and troubleshoot to head off problems.
Other Programs
School-to-Work Program-
Provides the opportunity for a
business to hire a trained worker following the completion of a six-week
work study experience via BOCES.
Transitional and Direct
Placement Program-
Provides businesses with
pre-screened applicants with the required qualifications. In most instances
the individuals have work experience and specialized training or education.
If they need time-limited job coaching, the Arc will provide it.
Welfare-to-Work Program-
Referred by the Department of
Social Services, the individuals placed through this program may not have a
mental or physical disability, but the nevertheless have barriers that need
to be overcome if they are to succeed at work.

ONE STOP or Working
Solutions is a multi-county program whose aim is to connect people seeking
employment with employers.
Located on the 2nd
floor of the New York State Office Building, 207 Genesee Street in downtown
Utica, ONE STOP brings together dozens of local agencies in a coordinated
effort to maximize job opportunities for residents of central New York.
The Arc, Oneida-Lewis
Chapter, is a charter, full partner at ONE STOP. So The Arc’s Employment
Services is represented on this team and works side by side with other
agencies.
