
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Special
Education evaluation
and treatment for children birth to 18 years of age (birth to 5 years of
age for Special Education) with developmental
and physical disabilities, and neurological disorders.
Occupational Therapy services specialize in the areas of Sensory
Integration and Brain Gym®. Fine motor coordination and visual
perceptual skills are also addressed.
Physical Therapy services emphasize the development of gross motor
skills (walking, running, jumping, skipping, etc.) and balance skills,
as well as increasing strength and endurance. Issues with muscle tone
are also addressed as indicated.
Speech Therapy services focus on the development of language, cognition
(i.e. attention, memory), articulation, voice, and fluency to promote
functional communication skills. The use of alternative modes of
communication can be implemented if needed. Functional feeding and
swallowing skills are also addressed.
Special Education services address cognitive and processing delays and
difficulties with maintaining attention. Behavior modification
strategies and techniques are implemented as needed and teachers assist
children to enhance their school readiness skills.
Services are offered and funded through the Oneida County Early
Intervention program for children birth to three years of age and the
Oneida County Related Service program for children three to five years
of age.
Services are offered in the home and community environments or in The
Arc’s Therapy & Play Center, 241 Genesee Street, Utica, NY.
