Valued Outcomes
Valued outcomes reflect what is important to each
individual in their curren
t
life situation and identifies their personal priorities. Each
individual identifies their valued outcome(s) in life with support from
those who are important in their lives. It is these values that drive
the development and personalization of all supports, services, and
activities in the Individualized Service Plan (ISP).
Valued outcomes evolve from person-centeredness,
which is both a philosophy and an approach to quality of life and
planning and services for people with developmental disabilities. It
focuses on formulating a positive and meaningful vision to their
future. Valued Outcomes address and emphasizes person’s capacities,
strengths, preferences and interests. It emphasizes listening to the
individuals and their families, their short and long-term wants, needs
and dreams for the future. It creates a support system built around
personal commitment and community involvement.
