Residential Opportunities For Adults
With Developmental Disabilities
Declaration of Purpose:
We the people of
Residential Services strive to ensure a quality of life consisting of
the necessities and niceties, meaningful opportunities and
self-determined outcomes.
Each
of us values
the importance of honest communication and consistency. The
trust we place in each other helps to create the security and
stability essential for us all.
We do this through a supportive
partnership based on growth and mutual respect for one another.
As part of a 24-hour a day 7-day a week
relationship, we recognize the potential of each life moment as a
shared learning experience. We are residential services, where
life and living go hand in hand.
Overview:
While “home” can take many forms, The Arc offers the greatest level of
independence possible in comfortable, healthy, individualized and
home-like environments. As the first private sector residential
provider in Oneida County, the Agency has more than
25 years experience in the field. Residential options reflect a vast
range of supports and focus on the abilities of the people we serve.
With over 34 Individualized Residential Alternatives throughout Oneida and Lewis counties, Arc
homes can be found in quiet, rural settings or bustling city
neighborhoods; in small quaint villages or sprawling suburbs. Living
opportunities include homes ranging in size from two-person to
ten-person. The agency has a commitment to provide smaller residences
that blend into neighborhoods. The majority of residences are for
three to six people.
Support and assistance is based on need
and personal preference; and ranges from a few hours per week to
24-hour, on-site supervision. The residential program offers more than
just custodial care or room and board. Each person’s Residential
Habilitation Plan is based on his or her individual strengths, needs,
interests and valued outcomes. The program provides support,
assistance and oversight in all aspects of a person’s life from
recreation to medical needs. Individuals’ valued outcomes are diverse
and unique. Individuals have attained lifetime goals, such as
obtaining United States Citizenship, or a black belt in Tae Kwon Do,
with help from Residential Services.
Under the New York State Cares
Initiative, the Agency has developed several new IRA’s designed to
meet the specific needs and desires of individuals and their families.
Currently, the Agency is committed to reconfigure existing residences
that will offer greater opportunities for individualization,
accessibility, privacy and personal space.
