community

Day Services programs are committed to offering consumers community based training, as we believe that this is the best and preferred mode of skill development.  Through these experiences, individuals are given the opportunity to be contributing members of their community.  Each individual is given an array of community inclusion opportunities to choose from.  While in the community, staff reinforce those skills that individuals are working to improve, in a more natural environment  (i.e. social amenities while making a purchase).

Educational, Cultural and Volunteer Experiences

Individuals are involved in volunteer experiences at many community locations, and at Arc program sites. The Arc’s Day Services program promotes community goodwill via numerous volunteer efforts.  Many Arc programs have received letters of appreciation and donations for their countless number of volunteer hours.

Day Services also provides extensive opportunities for individuals to experience the finest performances in the area as well as trips to local educational establishments. Educational and cultural opportunities help individuals expand their social networks and establish natural supports within the community.

The goal of Day Services is to provide a program to meet each person’s unique wants and desires. We have begun to form small groups within existing programs to meet the more non-traditional requests of individuals.  In doing so, we have created small peer groups which usually meet on a part-time basis, depending on their preference.  This group focuses on volunteering, inclusion, integration and helping others within the program.  We strive to meet every person’s wishes, within reason.
