Eligibility for Services

A person must have a disability which is attributable to mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, or neurological impairment, or attributable to any other condition of a person found to be developmentally disabled. Such condition results in similar impairment of general intellectual functioning or adaptive behavior to that of mentally retarded persons or require treatment and services similar to those required for such person.

Admissions Process

Referral and Intake: Individuals are primarily referred to the workshop through various agencies, such as DSO, Catholic Charities, UCP, and The Arc of Oneida-Lewis.

bulletIndividual referral packets are presented before the Oneida County Admissions and Terminations Committee
bulletA tour/meeting is scheduled to discuss required documentation for the intake at the workshop at 14 Arnold Avenue
bulletVerbal confirmation from the Clinic/Workshop Registered Nurse, and Asst. Director of Vocational Services upon completion of intake.

A Rehabilitation Counselor/Coordinator is assigned to each individual from ClinicWorks/Rehabilitation to assist with the intake and to identify/achieve goals. The Coordinator/Counselor is also responsible for making referrals for other services.

The Coordinator/Counselor also develops the Treatment or Rehabilitation Plan for each individual on progresses within the vocational program with input from workshop staff. Treatment and Rehabilitation Plans occur twice a year in a meeting format where an individual may invite anyone he or she wishes to attend the meeting.

Other Services

bulletNursing: A full-time registered nurse is available in case of medical emergencies and to dispense needed medication.
bulletTransportation: The Arc may be able to assist with learning how to use public transportation. The Arc does provide transportation for a fee and with administrative approval.
