Enriching the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Oneida and Lewis counties.

The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, is a human service organization that has been a leader in services for people with developmental disabilities since 1954. The Agency was founded by a group of parents who envisioned a rich, full life for their children with disabilities inclusive in the community. Today, The Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter is one of 52 chapters of The Arc New York statewide organization.

The Arc provides a full spectrum of educational, vocational, residential, family support, service coordination, guardianship, respite care, recreational rehabilitation, day habilitation, clinical, senior and children’s services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Our Agency is staffed by over 750 professionals and serves over 1,700 people throughout Oneida and Lewis Counties.

Our Mission is to enable persons with disabilities and their families to achieve their potential through self-determined goals in partnership with the Agency. We will provide leadership in our community to develop the necessary human and financial resources to fulfill this mission.

Our Core Values
Our Core Values reflect our work at The Arc, the foundation of our culture and the backdrop of our everyday interactions. It is important that we have this set of values to guide and unify us in the important work that we do.

Our Core Values also highlight the important elements of how we each perform our specialized functions. The Core Values are now incorporated into the orientation and training of all new employees. By supporting our Core Values, we all contribute to a culture of positivity, stability and vision necessary for the Arc to survive and thrive in the years to come.

A Message From Our CEO

The Arc has been demonstrating great strength in advocacy and innovation.

First, we were proud of our staff and community for the support we received during the massive and statewide “Be Fair to Direct Care” campaign.

Our voices were heard after a year-long public campaign to increase the wages for our direct care professionals at the agency and across the state. We stood together with other agencies to let tell our legislators and Governor how important our staff are to those we support and their families. We were successful in getting wages increased for the next year for our staff and appreciate our local legislators’ support and understanding.

We also focused on innovation and building on our strengths and creativity for new business enterprises for those we support in our agency. On August 1, 2016, we successfully opened a new program that is growing into a unique deli business in Lowville, NY that will be operated by those we support. The community support has been incredible along with our creative staff.

Continuing with our focus on innovation, in December of 2016, we were ecstatic to learn that we received a substantial grant of just under $1,000,000 from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York to build a robust telehealth system across the agency. In addition, we are working with other community providers and state officials to provide this vital health system to our community.

October 2016 was a significant anniversary for our entire agency. We celebrated the merger of Oneida and Lewis County ARC chapters that occurred in 1996. While mergers can be challenging, we have always seen that our staff, no matter where they are in our agency, continues to always work together for our mission and those we support in the agency.

Our successes last year is due to the great staff we have and our culture of innovation and advocacy, and the vast community support we continue to receive across our two counties.

We look forward to more achievements and successes!
