Our Story

A Sweet Idea

Chef’s Express began in 2008 as a program at The Arc, Oneida-Lewis for people interested in baking to develop and hone their skills. The baked goods produced were so delicious that they became well-known throughout The Arc, which led to the idea of opening a full-fledged bakeshop.

Opening Doors

After fundraising support from the 2019 Utica Mayor’s Gala, Chef’s Express opened its doors to downtown Utica in December 2021. The goal was to fold The Arc’s mission into a public bakeshop for everyone in our community to enjoy. We provide an inclusive, hands-on learning and training environment for people with developmental disabilities, creating opportunities and incredible flavors for you to savor.

Embracing Inclusion

Choosing Chef’s Express means more than savoring mouthwatering soups, cupcakes, muffins, brownies, cookies, coffee, and cakes—you’re empowering people with disabilities to showcase their talents and achieve equity in our community. We're confident you'll love our products as much as our story mission.

On A Mission

Under the leadership of our bakery manager, Chef’s Express provides an inclusive, hands-on learning environment for people with developmental disabilities, fostering opportunities to hone their skills and create unique flavors. We hope you enjoy your experience and tell your friends and family about us.
