Mourning the Loss of a Legend
We’re mourning the passing of Gary Burkle. Gary was one of a kind. A true great who was determined, driven, and committed to living the life he envisioned for himself. Moreover, he dedicated himself to ensuring others could do the same.
Through selfless and tireless outreach and the pursuit of equality for all people with disabilities, Gary became a champion of self-advocacy in our community and across the state. He was elected and appointed to several respected leadership roles, including serving as President and other executive positions with the Utica Shining Stars for several years.
Gary loved to stay busy and connected. He seemed to know everyone, and he could call in a favor at a moment’s notice. He was a change maker, an influencer, and a legend whose impact will be felt for generations. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Gary.
